Hearing on Superintendent Contract

 

 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING ON SUPERINTENDENT

 

 

 

CONTRACT MODIFICATION 

 

 

 

The Board of School Trustees of Union Township School Corporation will convene a public meeting on Thursday, December 21,2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Union Township Middle School Commons located at 599 West 300 North, Valparaiso, Indiana. The purpose of the public meeting is for the Board to meet to discuss and hear objections to and support for a proposed modification of the Superintendent’s contract to comply with IC 20-26-5-4.3. A summary of the proposed Superintendent contract is as follows:

 

 

 

  1. Term – July 1, 2017-June 30, 2020, 3 years

  2. Base annual salary - $121,200

  3. A work year of 260 days with annual entitlement to twenty vacation days, fourteen holidays, fifteen sick days (cumulative to the waiting period for long term disability benefits; conversion of excess sick days at the rate of $.001 of the then current annual salary payable to 401(a) account), four personal business days, and bereavement leave per the Administrators and Directors Contract Addendum schedule effective July 1, 2011

  4. Teachers Retirement Fund (TRF) – The School Corporation pays the Superintendent’s statutorily required TRF contribution, which is 3% of the Superintendent’s base salary

  5. Annuity – The School Corporation pays an amount equal to $10,000.00 per contract year into a tax sheltered annuity

  6. Group Insurance – Superintendent is eligible to participate in School Corporation’s then current family group health, dental and vision insurance plans at the premium contribution rate of $1.00 per year. As of October, 2017 the annual premium cost to the School Corporation for a family plan is $23,944.32.

  7. Life Insurance – The School Corporation provides a term life insurance policy for the Superintendent with a face value of $100,000.00. As of November, 2017 the annual premium cost to the School Corporation is $156.00.

  8. Disability Insurance – The School Corporation provides a long-term disability insurance plan providing a benefit of two-thirds of the annual base salary. The projected annual premium to be paid by the School Corporation for the policy is $733.26.

  9. Professional Memberships – The School Corporation pays the cost of annual memberships in the following professional organizations: IAPSS, DALI and AASA. The current total annual membership cost for these organizations is $3,609.58.

  10. Professional Conferences – The School Corporation pays the cost of attendance at professional conferences and seminars as approved in advance by the Board.

  11. Communication Devices - School Corporation provides a smart phone and appropriate data and usage package for school business use. The current annual cost to the School Corporation is approximately $600.

  12. Transportation expense – The School Corporation provides the Superintendent with a monthly car allowance in the amount of $300.00. Out of county travel reimbursed at the applicable IRS rate in addition to reimbursement for actual food/lodging expenses for travel.

  13. Other Benefits – The School Corporation provides the Superintendent with other benefits provided to its other twelve month administrators that are not inconsistent with the Superintendent’s contract per the Administrators and Directors Contract Addendum schedule effective July 1, 2011.

  14. Evaluation – The Board will meet with the Superintendent at least once each contract year to discuss performance evaluation.

  15. Professional Liability – As with all administrators, the Board provides the Superintendent with professional liability coverage and will defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Superintendent in legal actions involving incidents in which the superintendent was legally acting with the scope of his employment.

  16. Nonrenewal or termination of the contract as provided by Indiana law.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The complete proposed contract of the Superintendent will be available on the Union Township School Corporation website and will be presented at the public meeting on December 21, 2017. After hearing comments from the public at the meeting, the Board of School Trustees will consider the input received and then it will consider the proposed contract as an agenda item for consideration at a board meeting on or about January 10, 2018.
